The 2024 DIGITAL SME summit delivered a clear message: Europe must go beyond regulating technology developed elsewhere and invest in developing and scaling its own solutions. With European Commission Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen among its high-level speakers, the Summit put technological sovereignty and competitiveness at the centre of the discussion. Virkkunen announced €750 million in investment in seven AI supercomputers, highlighting the importance of strengthening Europe’s technological capabilities. Discussions also emphasised the need to build a competitive European tech stack, support homegrown innovation and create better conditions for digital SMEs to scale globally.
